10 Reasons Why You Should Plan a Solo-Trip in 2017!

Why travel alone? The question really should be, why not?! Making the scary yet exhilarating decision to travel alone was the best thing I have EVER done for myself. I overcame so many obstacles, reconnected with my higher self and came out feeling so damn good. I’m hooked on solo-travel!

If this is something you’ve been contemplating, or even if it’s never crossed your mind, I highly recommend really considering this as one of your New Year's resolutions. It doesn’t have to be a 3-month escapade to Costa Rica or a yearlong soul searching journey through Asia. It can be a simple weekend getaway to a domestic beach town or a 2-week adventure in Europe. Whatever you’re thinking, just do it, do it NOW because life is too short, the world is too big and your soul is aching to be reawakened! Don’t be afraid. Don’t let fear win. Discover just how strong and powerful you really are.

I hope my 10 reasons to travel alone will push you to the edge of your comfort zone, because after all, that’s where life begins:

1) You Will Get Uncomfortable

And yes, that’s a good thing! Every now and then you really just need to get out of your comfort zone, challenge yourself a little and remember how much of a bad ass you really are and traveling alone will do just that.

2) You Will Make New Friends

And not just any friends, friends you never thought you’d be friends with. You will meet people from all walks of life and you will realize the world is not as dangerous or scary as the media portrays. There are kind, beautiful souls tucked away in all the corners of the world that will take you in as their own.

3) You Will Become Your Own Bestie

After meeting so many wonderful people, you will also realize that you are your favorite company. You will have so much fun taking yourself out on little dates, nurturing and loving yourself, reawakening lost passions and discovering new ones.

4) You Will Grow And Transform

There’s no doubt you will. You will experience a new sense of confidence and you will learn to trust your intuition like never before. You will change, and always for the better.

5) You Will Get Lonely

Oh, the feeling of loneliness, how I used to dread thee. But it was in those moments of solitude that I had so many “aha moments” and eventually I started to crave that solitude and more of those “aha moments”.

6) You Will Reflect

There’s just something about being alone, like really alone, like alone in a foreign place where you know no-one alone, that makes you reflect, reconnect and realize what is really important in your life.

7) You Will Travel On Your Agenda

Imagine waking up in some paradise and asking yourself “Hmmm, what do I want to do today?” and then doing just that. Spend your days doing what you want, when you want, how you want.

8) You Will Appreciate Your Loved Ones

You will come back home with a new sense of appreciation for your loved ones, and we could all use that humble reminder from time to time. Make sure to bring them back some cool souvenirs!

9) You Will Experience Freedom

And I’m not talking about good ol’ USA freedom. I’m talking about questioning what society says is “normal” and deciding to live the kind of life that makes you happy, deciding not to conform kind of freedom. The freedom you get while traveling solo is difficult to put into words, it’s just something you have to experience for yourself.

10) You Will Feel Empowered

Yes, at first you feel uncomfortable. You will probably get lost, but then you will find yourself, you will try new foods, you will visit exotic places, you will hike to waterfalls or stroll through city parks, you will make new friends, you will buy cool shit, you will find yourself planning your next solo-trip, you will contemplate the meaning of life, you will conquer the world on your own terms, your own way, and you will come out of it feeling hopeful, optimistic and empowered!
