Don’t let the small beach town of Jaco fool you. Although it’s small in size, it’s big in appetite! From local to international cuisine there is something for every palate and budget. Jaco has many great restaurants and cafes that serve up traditional Costa Rican food, Italian, American, Asian and so much more. Comprised of local ticos, ex-pats and tourists from all over the world it’s no surprise Jaco offers an array of flavors to leave everyone’s hearts and bellies full.

Eat like a local and pay one of the many sodas a visit, and no, I’m not referring to a pop can. Sodas are small family-run restaurants and they’re in every town in Costa Rica. Jaco, although more of a touristy international city, is no exception. In the AM do yourself a favor and order a Gallo Pinto at Chinita Pacific (or as the locals like to call it, La Chinas), a traditional Costa Rican breakfast consisting of rice and beans typically served alongside eggs and tortillas. For dinner swing by Isagas and feel right at home with their sopa de pollo (chicken soup). I also love Las Olas, although I can't seem to find them on Trip Advisor. Eating at a soda is also a great way to save some money as it’s a little cheaper, but the taste & quality do not suffer.

Vegetarians & vegans will rejoice at the many delicious options available here from veggie tacos to homemade hummus to smoothies galore. After a day in the sun or an open-air yoga class refuel with an acai bowl or green juice at the popular Milk Café located on the main street. Some of my other favorite healthy spots are Rugula and Café Namaste.

There are bars basically in every corner pouring up everything from classic wells to crafted cocktails. Thirsty yet? Get the party started at the hip and chic Mono Verde located on the main street. Quench your thirst with their famous $2 margaritas and then order a round of chili guaros, Costa Rica’s national shot made of guaro, tomato juice, lime & Tabasco. It’s spicy, it’s savory, and it’s Costa Rica in a shot glass! For dinner head to my favorite restaurant in all of Jaco, Green Room. With live music every night and local, fresh healthy eats it never disappoints.
